quick question about copying items between plugins
      #2824950 - 07/19/04 08:29 AM

i have a few plugins with items i want to use but there is also a lot of stuff in them i dont want so i was planning on making a single plugin with a shop containing all the items from the various plugins. Is it possible to directly copy items from one plugin into another or do i have to make a LOAD of new items and copy the info from the other plugins? thanks for any help.

The easiest way to copy items is to use Tesame.

Mark all items to be copied (select with mouse or shift+cursor and then press space) and then use "Items/Save as" to save as a new ESD, Now load the other mod and insert the ESD using Items/Insert

1. Load both plugins in the Construction Set, with your plugin active.

2. Find the objects you want to use in your plugin on the tabs of the Object window.

3. Double-click the Object ID to open the object's Properties sheet, then click the 'Save' button. That will save the object into your plugin (the active .esp).

If you're copying amor or clothing, don't forget to also copy the required body parts. For NPCs, creatures, etc. remember to copy any required sounds, items, heads, etc.

4. Once you've resaved everything you need, save your .esp file, then double-check the Details list (from the Data Files window) to make sure you copied everything you need.

If any of the items use unique graphics files, you'll still need those installed in your Morrowind directories.

ahhhhhhhhhhh! this is killing me its taken me all day trying to work out how to do this! im trying to take stuff out of a mod called snakebittens lair. its imho too big and has too much stuff i dont want, all i wanted to do was take out one set of armour a coat and a hat!

1)i tried to make a plugin with new items using the files from the original: result adding the armour took ages so i left it and just added the coat and hat, the hat worked fine but whenever i tried to equip the coat i got an error black overcoat.1st body part missing

2) i did what you suggested and took EVERYTHING related to the armours, hat and coat from the original plugin and tried it in a new one:result, exactly the same thing the armour and hat work but the coat crashes my game

3)thinking i must be doing something wrong in making the items or exporting them into the new plugin so i tried editing the existing plugin, which i know works, all i did was move the people from one place to another and remove the unwanted items, i didnt change anything to do with the things i wanted and all the files should have worked yet i got exactly the same error and the game crashed! i dont see how what i did is making the game crash.

you are now thinking what the point of writing all that when only the last bit was of any use, true it is BUT i just want to show the effort i have put into trying to get this to work and explain how frustrated i am that it doesnt work. please help me fix this. thanks a lot.

Take a look on the body part tab and find the body part(s) used by the coat. There should be another one with the exact same Object ID but with an ".1st" added to the name.

That ID won't be listed on the properties sheet for the clothing object, but it's the same as what's on there except for the added ".1st".

You need that one too. Copy it into your mod the same way as the others. That's the sleeves for the coat, which show up in first person view.

See if that solves the problem for you.

hmmmmm its not there! could it be called something else perhaps or does it HAVE to be called black overcoat.1st? i think i may have to make what i need by renaming a regular robes .1st file the litch robe perhaps? thats blackish, ill try that and see if that works

This topic comes up fairly often, so I thought I'd throw in another tip.

You can figure out the meshes (.nif files) and icons needed for objects you're copying by looking at the properties for the objects, as discussed above.

To figure out what texture files you need, you have to look at the .nif files. For this, I use Dave Humphrey's NifTexture utility, which you can download from The UESP web site, here. You should also be able to find it on most major Morrowind download sites; the latest version I've seen is V1.3.

Once you have that installed, just double click on a .nif file, and the utility will show you all the textures the .nif needs. You can do more with NifTexture, but it is very handy for figuring out which texture files go with which .nif file.

Another tool that's sometimes useful for this is Shanjaq's Overunity, V.1.8, which you should be able to find on most major download sites (or just do a Google search). If I'm just moving a couple of objects and their files into a new mod, NifTexture is usually all I use to figure out which textures I need. But once I have everything moved, Overunity is handy for making sure I didn't miss anything.

Above inspired by a recent binge of merging and repackaging several armor and clothing mods...
